In addition to institutional and government assistance, various private organizations, companies and foundations provide support for funding a college education. The Financial Aid Office maintains a listing of some of these external sources of aid. Students and their families also are urged to explore funding from organizations in their local community.  If you have any questions regarding any of these scholarships, foundations or grants, you can contact the Student Financial Aid Office at 845-398-4097.

The following is a list of available scholarship opportunities. Please refer to the scholarship’s website for all deadlines and application requirements.

Abbott & Fenner Scholarships
The A & F Scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution, between the ages of 16 and 30. To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on one of the two topics below. Your submissions must be sent by email to

• When you look back on your life in thirty years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?

AES Engineers
Scholarships are intended for future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. A $500 scholarship is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility. Applicants are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. To apply, students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of the two questions that are posted online at

All-Ink Scholarship is committed to helping students pursue their goal of a higher education. is offering up to $5,000 in scholarships to qualified students who are enrolled or planning to participate in an accredited college or university program during the Spring 2009 or Fall 2009 term or full-year 2009-2010 school year. Students who apply must be a United States citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average. In addition, students applying are required to complete a 50 to 200 word essay about who has had the greatest impact on your life, and a 50 to 200 word essay on what you hope to achieve in your personal and professional life after completing college

American Association of University Women Barbara D. Myneder Memorial Scholarship
The Rockland County branch of the American Association of University Women is announcing their bi-annual Barbara D. Myneder Scholarship for a woman returning to continue her education toward an undergraduate degree. AAUW is a nationwide association of women and men whose mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. 

The Rockland County branch, founded in 1962, awards the scholarship based on the following eligibility criteria: A woman at least 21 years of age; a Rockland County resident; a student returning to school as an undergraduate; matriculated in a degree granting program at an accredited college/university at the time of receipt of the award; must demonstrate financial need as confirmed by the college/university. Click here for application

Anne Ford Scholarship
Sponsored by the National Center for Learning Disabilities, the Anne Ford Scholarship is a $10,000 award given to a high school senior with an identified learning disability (LD) who is pursuing an undergraduate degree.

The Association of Math Teachers of New York State
The Association of Math Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) offers scholarships designed to award undergraduate students who are potential teachers of mathematics either at the elementary or secondary school level. These awards are presented to outstanding Undergraduates who are enrolled in a Teacher Education Program in New York State and who have completed at least 18 credit hours of Mathematics. Castle Ink's Green Scholarship
This $2500 scholarship is for students showing a commitment to recycling and the environment. If you support efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle, then you qualify for this scholarship from Castle Ink. Students must be a United States citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average. For more information visit:

Davies-Jackson Scholarship for Graduating Seniors
The Davies-Jackson Scholarship presents a unique opportunity for students who are among the first in their families to graduate college, to participate in a course of study at St. John’s College at the University of Cambridge. Graduating seniors may apply for either the one-year M.Phil degree program or as an Affiliated Student for the two-year B.A. degree program.  This full scholarship is funded by an anonymous donor who wishes to provide the same opportunities at St. John’s that he was afforded as a young man. The list of institutions from which students are eligible to apply has recently been expanded and now includes nearly 400 CIC member institutions. The Dial My Dentist Scholarship Program
The Dial My Dentist Scholarship Program is proud to award a $1,000 scholarship to students who will be enrolled in a College or University in the fall. The primary goal of the program is to reward students who can demonstrate, through an essay, that they understand the value of an education. For more information visit:

G.I.R.L. Scholarship
Sony Online Entertainment is now accepting applications for a scholarship that aims to encourage women to explore the field of videogame production and design. The G.I.R.L. Scholarship will grant up to $10,000 toward a single student’s tuition and education expenses and the option of participating in a 10-week internship with SOE. The Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship
The Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship is a $,5000 scholarship available to currently enrolled high school seniors or first-year college students. To be eligible for this award, the student must be a U.S. citizen, be under 25 years of age and answer both of the following two essay questions: "Why is a healthy lifestyle important in school?" and, describe your career plans, goals and personal ambitions. Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The ICBC Scholarship
The ICBC Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship offered to one student each year. To be eligible the student must be currently attending school at a high school level and must demonstrate that

Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship,
Sponsored by the New York State Lottery, this is a $5,000 scholarship paid over four years, at $1,250 per year.  One student from every participating public and private high school in New York State is awarded scholarship.  Student must plan to attend New York State-accredited college, university, trade school, or community college; should have at least B average based on seven semesters of high school. Liberty Mutual Scholarship Program

National Italian American Foundation Scholarship Program
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has an education budget of $1,000,000. The NIAF will award scholarships and grants to outstanding students.  The awards will be made on the basis of academic merit and divided between two groups of students. Scholarship awards range from $2,000-$12,000.
Category I: Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. Area of study: open.
Category II: Those students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field, who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements.  For more information visit

New York State (NYS) Math & Science Teaching Incentive Scholarships
New York State (NYS) Math & Science Teaching Incentive Scholarships are offered to encourage students to pursue careers as secondary math and science teachers (grades 7-12). This program provides awards to students attending school at the undergraduate and/or graduate degree level in exchange for five years of full-time employment as secondary education math or science teachers.

New York State Transfer and Articulation Association
The New York State Transfer & Articulation Association is an organization dedicated to establishing a state-wide academic forum and support group for transfer issues. The Annual NYSTAA Scholarship is a monetary award given to four (4) students graduating with Associates degrees from member two-year colleges and transferring to member four-year institutions, both in New York State. For more information visit:

Each year, the Foundation – in conjunction with New York Women in Communications – awards scholarships on the basis of academic excellence, need, and involvement in the field of communications.

PepsiCo / Hispanic College Fund Scholarships
PepsiCo is partnering with the Hispanic College Fund to promote higher education among Hispanic students. PepsiCo is offering to assist undergraduate and graduate studies, including five scholarships worth $4,000 each and 25 scholarships worth $500 each. Pfizer’s Scholarship Award 
This $2000 scholarship is available to high school senior who has overcome the challenges of epilepsy and is available for new freshmen, sophomores, or juniors in college. For more information visit:

RMHC National Scholarship Programs
Sponsored by Ronald McDonald House Charities. Scholarships are for students in the United States living in areas where there are participating local Chapters. Students may only apply for one of the four scholarships available.

Society for Human Resource Management Scholarship
The Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (MHV SHRM) has established a scholarship program to help fund the education of local college students with a sincere interest in the field of Human Resources. The $500 Awards are based on merit, and may be combined with other financial aid as long as the total received does not exceed the cost of tuition, fees and books for a single school year. For more information, visit the Society's web page at

Society of American Travel Writers Scholarship

SOF (Seeds of the Future)
Undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need may apply. Applicants must file FAFSA each year. All applicants must have a minimum 2.7 GPA, and must be enrolled in program leading to applicant's desired degree, or a High School Senior planning to enter college. Scholarship awards up to $1000 are available for those who qualify and meet all requirements. Students may apply online at anytime during the academic year. To apply go to:

The Provident Bank Charitable Foundation

The Vegetarian Resource Group College Scholarships
Award for graduating high school students who have promoted vegetarianism or veganism in their schools or communities. Students will be judged on having shown compassion, courage and a strong commitment to promoting a peaceful world through a vegetarian or vegan diet/lifestyle.

United Negro College Fund Scholarships
Scholarships and faculty development grants administered by the UNCF are intended to facilitate access to UNCF member institutions and to strengthen the quality of education that these colleges and universities offer.
