What is the STAC Fund?
The STAC Fund, or the College's general fund,
supports everything from academic and athletic
scholarships to the maintenance of the physical
grounds/buildings. For example, our most recent
project was the renovation of Lougheed Library!
And while the list of items supported by the STAC
Fund is huge, please know this-the lasting effects
of your support of the STAC Fund are immeasurable.
Today,
St. Thomas' students study in state-of-the-art
classrooms and science laboratories; they use
computer and language labs that offer the latest
technology and gamely compete in NCAA Division
II sports programs. Moreover, STAC continues to
be listed nationally among the leading colleges
for the study of liberal arts and sciences.
Why should the Alumni donate
to the College's STAC Fund?
On a national basis, charitable giving in 2002
saw a total of 83% of all donations coming from
individuals, 12% came from foundations, and 5%
came from corporations.
When the College's Advancement
Office applies for a grant from a foundation or
corporation, the first question they ask is, "How
much have the College's Alumni donated?"
Support from alumni not only aids the institution
on a primary level, it also impresses upon outside
"investors" that our Alumni are proud
of the diploma that hangs on their wall and will
remain supportive. Any donation, no matter what
the amount, helps our students and strengthens
the College's foundation. We thank you for your
ongoing support!
Why do I get so much
mail from the College?
Do you remember when you were in your teens and
your grandparents or even your parents kept asking
you to spend more time with them, but you were
busy with friends and school? Well we're like
your grandparents. We just want you to keep in
touch and come back for a visit every now and
then. There is a lot going on at STAC, and we
want to make sure we send you information on all
the latest news and events, so you are able to
partake in events that most interest you.
Does STAC help Alumni who
need career advice and/or employment resources?
Yes, the Office of Counseling and Career Services
is available to Alumni who may be need a contact
in their industry or who are considering a career
change and need connections and advice on how
to break into a new industry. The Career Services
office can also help Alumni with negotiating skills,
interviewing techniques, and/or resume building.
The Office of Career Services in conjunction with
the Alumni Affairs office also hosts networking
receptions for students and alumni to meet and
greet one another.
How can I be more involved
with my Alma Mater?
The College loves to see Alumni back on campus,
intermingling with students and faculty! Whether
you volunteer for the Alumni Career Network, join
us at our Annual Tribute Dinner and/or Hall of
Fame Dinner, become a member of the Alumni Board
of Directors, or just come to one of the alumni
events , we
would love to see you! And of course, if time
is an issue, you can always support the school
through a donation
or scholarship..
