If you are selected for verification, the Federal government requires St. Thomas Aquinas College to confirm the information you reported on your FAFSA. This is done by comparing your FAFSA with the information on the Verification worksheet, the information on your tax return and with other required documentation. If there are differences, your FAFSA information may need to be corrected. You will be advised by the Financial Aid Office if you have been selected.
What You Need To Do
Complete and sign the required Verification Worksheet and submit the form and other required documents to the financial aid office at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
If tax returns were filed electronically use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to complete the FAFSA. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) is part of the FAFSA on the Web. Go to www.FAFSA.ed.gov and click Start Here, login, and start a correction. Once in the FAFSA, navigate to the "Finances" section, where the option to use the tool displays for eligible students and parents and then transfer the IRS tax information into your FAFSA. Make sure both the parent and student sign the form using their pins and that you click through until you get a confirmation page saying your FAFSA is successfully submitted. A new FAFSA with any updated information will automatically be sent to St Thomas Aquinas College’s Financial Aid Office for use in the verification process. We strongly recommend you use the DRT if it is available to you.
The St. Thomas Aquinas College Financial Aid Office will then use the IRS information that was transferred in the verification process. If students and their parents choose not to or are unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool they must then submit to the school a 2013 IRS Tax Return Transcript by calling 1-800-908-9946 or visit IRS Tax Transcript and click “Get Transcript Online”. Once you receive the tax transcript(s), submit them to the Financial Aid Office.
If you are selected for verification, the college cannot disburse your federal aid, state aid, college aid, or student loans until the process is completed. This is for new or continuing students. If the college cannot disburse aid onto the student account, the student will be responsible for the business office invoiced amounts. Please provide any requested documentation to the Office of Financial Aid in a timely fashion.
