COMMUNICATION ARTS MAJOR
Communication Arts majors explore the several ways we communicate, through our words, actions, and technologies. This study involves taking a closer look at the variety of communication practices we use today – in radio, television, public relations, and the internet – and the complex relationships between the medium and the message.
Communication Arts at STAC
At St. Thomas Aquinas College, students can major in Communication Arts with a Specialization in Journalism or in a General Course of Study in Communication Arts. Both majors are designed to offer students a theoretical and a practical mix of course work related to human expression, and both majors prepare students for work in the business of broadcasting as well as for graduate study. All Communication Arts majors are able to take courses in five areas of communication: speech, journalism, film, video, and radio.
Exciting internship opportunities are available to majors in their junior or senior years with professional broadcasting companies, public relations firms, newspapers, and magazines. Being located within 20 miles of the Number One broadcasting market in the world offers Communication Arts majors exceptional opportunities to work with the best in the business. Students gain hands-on experience both inside and outside of the classroom in courses such as Broadcast Announcing, Introduction to Mass Media, TV Studio Production, and Communication Skills in Business, and can apply these skills in our new state-of-the-art HDTV Studio or at WSTK, the college’s radio station
