Dear Students:
I am excited that you are interested in a major within the Division of the Social Sciences at St. Thomas Aquinas College. Our social sciences alumni have excelled in a range of careers in fields including social work, teaching and sports management.
Our students develop vital proficiencies including critical thinking and research skills, all while attaining a broader understanding of society. We are dedicated to our students’ development both in and out of the classroom. Social science fields are growing exponentially and here, at St. Thomas, we emphasize real-world experience. Our vast array of internships help prepare students for their future careers.
There are six majors within the social sciences division: criminal justice, history, psychology, social sciences, recreation and leisure and social sciences with secondary certification. In each major there are internship opportunities for students in their junior and senior years. Upon graduation, many of our students have been
offered full-time positions at the place where they completed their internships.
Furthermore, the courses offered in the Recreation and Leisure major meet the requirements for certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), The National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), and the New York State Coaching Association.
