Frequently Asked Questions About the MBA

1. Do I need to have an undergraduate degree in business to pursue my MBA at Saint Thomas Aquinas College? 

No. The STAC MBA program is designed to accommodate the academic needs of working professionals with undergraduate degrees in areas outside of business as well as graduates of business programs. STAC's MBA program includes a series of 11 core courses that provide graduates of all disciplines with the academic foundation in business that they will need to successfully complete their MBA. A maximum of 8 of these courses maybe waived based on a student's previous undergraduate work.

2. How long does it take to complete the program? 

The MBA degree requires a total of 57 credits, but many students earn up to 24 course waiver credits based on previous undergraduate or graduate credits. Full time students may complete the program in one year. However, the majority of the students are working professionals who take two to three years to complete the program.

3. How do I obtain a waiver from a foundation course?

A request for course waiver must be submitted to the Admissions Office. Preferably this is submitted at the time of application to the MBA program and must be completed by the end of the first semester of attendance. 4. May I transfer credits form another MBA Program?

A maximum of 9 graduate transfer credits may be accepted for courses comparable to a STAC course.

5. Do I have to start the program in September or can I start at the beginning of any session?

Sessions begin in September, December, March and June. First time students can start the program in any session.

6. When do the classes meet?

The St. Thomas MBA program is offered entirely on weekends. There are four sessions per year and each session is for nine weeks. Each course meets once per weekend on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings, or Sunday mornings. This allows students to complete up to 3 courses per session.

7. How long is each class? 

Friday evening classes are from 6:00 PM until 10:25 PM. Saturday and Sunday morning classes are from 8:30 AM until 12:55 PM.

8. What is the tuition for the MBA program? 

The tuition costs of a 3-credit graduate course for the 2006-07 academic year are $1,770.00. Applicants who hold an undergraduate degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College are eligible for a 10% tuition discount. Many employers offer tuition reimbursement for graduate study, so students are encouraged to check with the benefits department at their place of employment. Tuition can be paid by cash, check, credit card, or a partial payment plan. Contact the STAC business administration division office at (845) 398-4109 for more information.

9. Do I have to take the GMAT Examination?

Waivers of the GMAT Examination are available to applicants with a minimum of five years full time business experience at increasing levels of management responsibility and to Saint Thomas Aquinas College graduates who meet all other criteria for admission. They are also available to graduates of colleges that have an articulation agreement with Saint Thomas Aquinas College.

10. How do I apply to the MBA program? 

You may apply to the MBA program by contacting the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid to obtain an application packet. Applicants should submit all information one month prior to the start of the next class section. Generally, students are required to:

  • Have earned a bachelor's degree;
  • Have graduated with at least a 2.8 grade point average (4.0 scale); Submit copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcript
  • Complete the $30 application fee
  • Submit three letters of recommendation; 
  • Submit GMAT scores (Use STAC Code #2807) or a GMAT wavier request.
