(SPARKILL,
NY - August 28, 2006) - St. Thomas Aquinas College's
Azarian-McCullough Art Gallery will display Sarah
Petruziello's show, titled "Recent Works",
from September 10 through October 1. The Gallery
will host an Artist's Reception on Sunday, September
10, from 2-5 p.m. announced Dr. Carl Rattner,
the A.M.A.G. Director. The show is free to the
community.
Sarah Petruziello's drawings are somewhat reminiscent
of Frieda Kahlo's art. As in the work of the great
Mexican (perhaps the most influential woman artist
of the 20th century) powerful feminine themes
here prevail. Petruziello's imagery is similarly
allegorical and surrealistic. Coupled with titles
like "Godless," "Mistress,"
and "My Vanity," it will no doubt intrigue
and fascinate viewers.
Petruziello is decidedly a master of her medium.
Representational portraits are carefully composed
and exquisitely rendered in varied tones of graphite
on paper. Several are further enriched with subtle
additions of colored gouache, as in the case of
"Emergence," a double
self-portrait that contains a color oval window
of an adult cicada emerging from its nymph stage.

times for groups, call the AMAG at 845-398-4195.
