NY - August 15, 2006) -- Brother David Carroll,
F.S.C., Under Secretary General of Catholic Near
East Welfare Association, has been appointed to
Chair of the St. Thomas Aquinas College Board
of Trustees, announced Dr. Margaret M. Fitzpatrick,
S.C., College President.
Brother Carroll has dedicated his life and career
to the service and education of others. He has
held various administrative and teaching positions
in the fields of science and math at the secondary
and college levels throughout the Northeast. He
served as a technological consultant for IBM and
for Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn.
In 1968, Brother Carroll founded the Data Systems
Center for the Archdiocese of New York and directed
the Center for 11 years.
In 1978, he became the Vice President for Finance
for Long Island New England Province of Brothers
of Christian Schools. He held that position for
four years while also acting as Assistant to the
Chancellor for Information Management Systems
of the Archdiocese of New York. Brother Carroll
went on to become the Director of Research for
the Pope John Paul II Center for Prayer and Study
for Peace. He has spent the past 20 years as Under
Secretary General for Catholic Near East Welfare
Association and as an Advisor on Middle East Issues
for the Holy See Permanent Observer Mission to
the United Nations.
Brother Carroll joined the St. Thomas Board in
1998. He serves and has served on numerous boards
and in assorted organizations and foundations
throughout his career. He is a Knight Grand Cross
of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre
of Jerusalem and has received different awards
from that order among many other awards and honors.
In 1995, he was awarded The Cross Pro Ecclesia
et Pro Pontifice, a Papal Honor, for his admirable
performance.

out of the education field, will serve us well
as the Board works to achieve the goals of the
College and open doors for our current and future
students. Brother Carroll's lifelong journey as

should be an example to us all."
Brother Carroll received his B.A. from Catholic
University of America, his M.A.T. from Brown University
and his Ph.D. from New York University.

ABOUT ST. THOMAS
St. Thomas has expanded its offerings to include:
a Master of Science in Education, a Post Masters
Certificate program in Education, a Master of
Science in Teaching, a Master of Business Administration
program, a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science
and Bachelor of Science in Education, and an Associate
of Arts and an Associate of Science degree, the
latter two offered at the West Point Military
Academy. In addition, St. Thomas is the host campus
for a Master of Science in Social Work program
offered by New York University.
The
College's 2,400 full and part time students major
in one of 31 programs offered in five division
areas: The Humanities; Business Administration;
Social Sciences; Natural Sciences & Mathematics;
and Teacher Education or are enrolled if one of
our graduate programs. The College offers a full
scholarship Honors Program which provides students

to offer expanded opportunities for students.
For example, students can major in mathematics
at St. Thomas for three years and then enter an
engineering program at either George Washington
University or Manhattan College as part of a dual
degree program.

Thomas offers study abroad opportunities in Ireland,
Italy, Hungary, Nova Scotia, Brazil and Japan.
The College currently includes 21 buildings, the
most recent one an additional residence hall.
It's most recent academic building project is
Costello Hall, an Art, Sciences & Technology
Building. This state-of-the-art facility includes
new science labs, an art gallery and two multi-media
theatres along with additional technology classrooms.
