Field experience involves the direct observation of teaching, participation in teaching, or teaching itself that is related to the teacher education program in which the candidate is enrolled. Field experiences occur prior to student teaching and experiences are carefully selected and planned by the faculty of the School of Education.
Student Teaching is a gradual introduction to teaching though a progression of experiences from observation, to participation, to teaching. During these experiences, cooperating teachers serve as mentors and models of professional practice for candidates. Through collaboration with cooperating teachers, candidates receive the support they need in order to create learning environments that are student-centered, knowledge-centered, and in which assessment is used to support learning and develop professional practice.
