By U.S. News & World Report
(SPARKILL, NY – September 2, 2010)– St. Thomas Aquinas College has been named a Top-Tier Regional University (North) this month by U.S. News & World Report in their 2011 Best Colleges annual report, announced St. Thomas President Dr. Margaret M. Fitzpatrick, S.C.
The exclusive rankings of more than 1,400 schools nationwide has grown to be the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education opportunities, according to U.S. News & World Report.
"The entire St. Thomas Aquinas College community is proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” said Fitzpatrick. “We have been ranked highly by multiple external reporting agencies over the years and this is certainly one of the most prestigious recognitions for a college or university.”
U.S. News & World Report ranked St. Thomas as a Top Tier Regional Liberal Arts College in 1997 and 2001 and was accompanied by a Money Guide America’s Best Buy and a Best Value by 4,500 guidance counselors surveyed for the Kaplan/Newsweek College Catalog 2000 Edition.
St. Thomas remains a college but in 2003 was reclassified as a regional masters level university for rankings purposes and began competing with much larger universities for the prestigious rankings.
“We’ve continued to grow our campus and our offerings. St. Thomas students and alumni are the beneficiaries of our growth and maturity as an institution and this latest accolade is a reaffirmation of what we are and where we are going as a liberal arts college,” Fitzpatrick added.
St. Thomas Aquinas College is starting a new building project on campus that will provide a new home for its business and education divisions including the graduate programs in business and education. The College recently renovated and added to its residence halls and plans to continue with another residence hall renovation in 2011. In 2010 the College opened a state of the art communications studio, providing students with the newest in digital editing equipment. The college began offering an online MBA program this month and expanded its graduate education offerings to include a teacher leadership certificate program.
