News & Events

Students who like to use mathematics in a real world setting and are seeking a career that is both interesting and challenging should major in the field of Actuarial Science.  Using their knowledge of mathematics, statistics, and business actuaries not only assess the risk of an event occurring but also are instrumental in developing policies that will help to reduce expenditures associated with these events.

Mathematics with Actuarial Science at STAC
Our students take a variety of courses in this major such as Calculus, Mathematics of Finance, Life Contingences, and Numerical Analysis.  In addition, our students also take courses in accounting, economics and business.  This knowledge helps our students to take the abstract concepts learned in math classes and use them to solve various problems from actual real-life occurrences.  Students learn to how to use their mathematical expertise to make informed and efficient decisions, a valuable asset to any corporation.

Students who major in Mathematics with a specialization in Actuarial Science are employed in the insurance industry, management, scientific and technical consulting services, as well as the government. For more information about what you can do with this major, visit our Career Services website.
