MSEd In Literacy
The comprehensive, field based program in literacy is nationally recognized by the International Reading Association (IRA). The program consists of 36 credits with 30 credits of core requirements including a supervised practicum in teaching literacy and 6 credits of electives in Special Education, Teacher leadership, or Middle level instruction. The program uses an integrated approach that includes assessment, planning, instruction, and critical reflection to prepare professionals who are proficient in providing literacy instruction to all students. An additional goal is to prepare professionals proficient in organizing and supervising literacy programs in schools. The program meets certification requirements for reading specialist/literacy coach and is offered at two developmental levels:
Early Childhood and Childhood Literacy (Birth-Grade 6) and Middle Childhood and Adolescence Literacy (Grades 5- 12)
