What is the Student Government Association?
The Student Government Association aims to improve student life and ensure that all students have a voice in college decisions. They work to be the liaisons between the students and the faculty, administration, and staff. SGA is made up of all the clubs, classes, and organizations, as well as those students elected to represent the student body. SGA consists of:
What does the Executive Board do?
The SGA Executive Board runs monthly General Assembly meetings for all students to attend, holds weekly office hours to be accessible to the student body, manages certain campus events, and handles other day-to-day operations of student life. In addition to their administrative responsibilities, the Executive Board works to oversee the student clubs, classes, and organizations and to assist them when needed. Its five officers serve one-year terms from January to December:

Meet Your 2013 Executive Board!
President: Jimmy Emsworth
Jimmy Emsworth is a Junior commuter student from Pearl River, New York. He is currently studying Criminal Justice and hopes to be a Corrections Officer or Police Officer. In addition to the Executive Board Jimmy is a member of the Orientation Team. Jimmy’s goals for the 2013 SGA are to help students become more involved on campus and to help the STAC community grow as a whole.
Fun Fact: Jimmy can stand on his head.
Vice President: Mariel Henriquez
Mariel Henriquez is a Junior resident student from North Rockland, New York. She is majoring in Childhood and Special Education, Grades 1-6, in the hopes of one day having her own First Grade Classroom. In addition to the Executive Board, Mariel is also a Resident Assistant on campus, as well as a member of the Orientation Team. Mariel wanted to be a part of SGA because she wanted to become involved with the STAC community and be a part of something that makes things happen for the students. With the rest of the board, she hopes to accomplish great things, and have a fun time doing it!
Fun Fact: She has a twin sister, who also attends STAC!
Treasurer: Leslie Melendez
Leslie Melendez is a sophomore resident student from New Windsor, New York. She is a Biology major and hopes to work in the Chiropractic or Physical Therapy Field someday. After her first summer as an Orientation Leader and first semester on SGA, she’s is thrilled to be on the Board again! She hopes to encourage each student to become more involved and improve her leadership role in the STAC community.
Fun Fact: Leslie has been a Salsa dancer since she was six!
Secretary: Alexandra Mangus
Alex Mangus is a sophomore resident student from Staten Island, New York. She is a Biology major, and plans to attend Grad school in hopes of becoming a Pediatric Physical Therapist. Alex is excited about being a part of SGA because it is a great way to get involved, encourage others to be involved, be a leader in the STAC community, and have some fun!
Fun Fact: Alex has met almost the entire cast of Gossip Girl!
Chief Justice: Marisa Whelan
Marisa Whelan is a sophomore resident student from Westwood, New Jersey. She is majoring in English and minoring in Criminal Justice in hopes of going to law school after STAC. In addition to the Executive Board, Marisa is also a Resident Assistant, an Orientation Leader, and a Campus Ambassador. Marisa wanted to become a part of SGA to further enrich the college community and she loves to work with her peers. She hopes to become a stronger leader and work together to make STAC a better place.
Fun Fact: Marisa played hockey for 6 years!
