PART II |
Please read the two examples of unethical practices experienced by two American students and then provide 1, 2 or 3 narratives describing unethical practices that you, a coworker, a friend, or family member have experienced or observed. To do this you have 2 options: |
- Option 1 - Use a word-processor like Microsoft Word and then copy and paste in the space provided.
- Option 2 - Just type in the space provided
|
Example 1: Taking things that don’t belong to you:
“My friend Patrick works for a garden center. He has been working for this family-run business for about 5 years. The cash registers are old and there is no option to enter an employee identification number. Everyone that is hired, outside the family, is highly trusted in order to work there. Patrick learned the ropes and knows how everything works. He tells customers to pick up their orders around back when they are paying in cash, and he pockets the cash instead of ringing it into the register. He has been doing this for about 5 years, and steals about $200- $300 a month.”
|
Example 2: Not performing assigned work:
“While working my summer job for the Department of Public Works (DPW), I witnessed an extremely unethical situation. Some of the summer employees (they were going into their senior year of college), actually left the area in which they were supposed to be painting curbs, in order to drink in a nearby tavern. They were only in there for about 45 minutes but it is still wrong. First of all they were getting paid to work, not to do nothing and, secondly, they were drinking on "company time." Another thing that I'm sure they didn't consider is that they could negatively impact the DPW's reputation by doing something like that. Our boss, who was the superintendent, could get in trouble and possibly be fired because of those employees going into a tavern. “ |
