2020 Spartan Award Honoree: Leonard Stekol

Leonard StekolLeonard Stekol of Ridgewood Savings Bank, has more than 26 years of financial experience in the banking industry. The Board of Trustees of the Ridgewood Savings Bank elected Leonard Stekol to the position of Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2018. Mr. Stekol previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Ridgewood Savings Bank since July 2016, as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since January 2015, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since January 2013, and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since January 2009. Chartered in 1921, Ridgewood Savings Bank is the largest mutual savings bank in New York State with 36 branch locations and $5.5 billion dollars in assets, serving customers throughout the New York metropolitan area.

In addition to his membership on the Bank’s Board of Trustees, Leonard is a board member of MercyFirst, located in Syosset, New York, where he is also a member of the Finance and Charitable Fundraising Committees of the Board. In January 2018, Mr. Stekol was elected to serve as Vice Chairman of America’s Mutual Banks, a national association of mutual financial institutions. In April 2018, Mr. Stekol was appointed to serve on the New York State Charter Advisory Board. Additionally, Leonard is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Tax & Accounting Institute of the School of Professional Accountancy at Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus in Brookville, New York.

Leonard Stekol holds an Bachelor’s degree from Queens College of the City University of New York, a Master’s degree in accounting from Adelphi University, and is a graduate of the National School of Banking at Fairfield University, and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant. Leonard Stekol along with his wife, Elaina, and their two daughters, Rebecca and Victoria, reside in Bellmore, New York.
