MAJOR: COMMUNICATION ARTS
Hometown: New City, NY
After graduating from Rockland Community College with a degree liberal arts, Samantha Rosenthal said transferring to St. Thomas Aquinas College was an easy decision. Not only is STAC close to her New City, NY home, but its reputable communication arts major was a big draw for this self-proclaimed ‘fangirl’ and pop-music aficionado.
For three semesters, Samantha worked for STAC’s campus radio station, WSTK, hosting her own two-hour show featuring pop and indie rock from the likes of The Veronicas, Halsey, Kendall Schmidt, and James Bay.
With radio experience and two internships already under her belt (at Teen.com and Popmania), Samantha jumped at the chance to intern at Popstar! Magazine and Popstar.com, a tween and teen celebrity magazine and website. At Popstar! Samantha manages the website and social media platforms, writes articles, and answers fan mail. She also interviews musical acts before and after concerts. So far, she has met and interviewed Fifth Harmony (pictured left), The Vamps (pictured top-right, second from the left), The 1975, and One Direction, among others.
“I get to meet and work with a lot of bands and singers that I really like. I’m also building my resume and meeting people in the industry,” Samantha says. “The networking is really valuable.”
After graduation, Samantha hopes to work in a major radio market as part of a promotions team or managing social media content for a record label. Ultimately, she’d like to land a career at Billboard or New York City’s Z100. Samantha is pictured (right photo-center spot) with the cast of Pretty Little Liars.
“Wherever I do go, I’m ready. The professors at STAC are the best I’ve ever had. My communications classes are hands-on classes—I’m not just taking notes,” Samantha says. “I can’t see myself studying or preparing for my future anywhere else.”
