Major: Graphic Design Minor in business
Hometown: Franklin Lakes, NJ

“I am very grateful for what STAC did for me, and I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me throughout my four years of college.”

James Brinkley graduated from STAC in May 2016. It didn’t take him long to land his “dream job” two weeks later as an associate product manager with Toys”R”Us.

His road to success began in high school, when an elective graphic design course grabbed his interest and never let go. In his senior year, he researched college art programs, found STAC and scheduled a visit.

“I met with professors in the design program. Listening to them made me go, ‘Wow. These are the professors I want teaching me in college.’” James says. “The Pathways Program was another reason I chose STAC. I saw what it could do for me, and I knew STAC was where I wanted to be.”

So James enrolled at STAC, flourished in Pathways, a program that serves students with learning disabilities, completed two internships and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design – and a minor in business – four years later.

In less than a month, he was employed full-time at Toys”R”Us headquarters in Wayne, New Jersey.

“I found out about the job through a STAC job fair. I was walking around, talked with a recruiter and had an interview a week later,” James says. “I only had two weeks of free time between graduation and starting my job, and I was already starting to get bored!”

As associate product manager, James is responsible for designing, testing and monitoring sales of the company’s private-brand products. James says the job marries his major, minor and his lifelong love of collecting action figures and other toys.

“There’s a lot of opportunity here, and it’s an industry I’ve loved ever since I was a kid,” James says. “I would love to be here for as long as I possibly can. I never expected to land a job in this industry right off the bat, but STAC gave me positive reinforcement and pushed me to push myself and succeed.” With the Toys”R”Us mission statement being “We are Relentlessly Striving to be the Best Toy and Baby Retail Company FOR the World!” James strongly believes that STAC have given him the necessary attributes and confidence to help the company achieve its goals.
