B.S. Accounting, MBA finance
“I prefer to be busy. I’m used to high stress and pressure. I thrive under it, and STAC has taught me a lot of good time management skills that I’ll be able to use my whole life.”
A native of Garnerville, New York, Tamara Ireifej knew she wanted to go away to college, but still be close to home. St. Thomas Aquinas, located only a half hour away, filled that need. But it got better. STAC also offered Tamara a full-tuition scholarship and a chance to study at Oxford the summer between her junior and senior years.
“I liked that STAC was close enough to my family, but far enough away that I got the college experience,” Tamara says. “The honors program was great, and my trip to Oxford was amazing—more than amazing.”
And as if a full load of honors classes wasn’t enough, Tamara involved herself in the life of the campus in a number of ways. She was vice president of her undergraduate class, served as a resident assistant for two years, was president of the college business club, was a member of STAC’s service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, and served as a Spartan Volunteer and summer orientation leader—all before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Then she decided to stay at STAC.
Tamara enrolled in STAC’s MBA program and declared a concentration in finance. At the end of the 150-hour program, in addition to earning her MBA, Tamara will be eligible to sit for her New York State CPA licensing exam.
“It made so much sense for me to continue at STAC while I was still in ‘study mode,’ Tamara says. “I’m learned a lot of new things, and my professors were not only knowledgeable about the accounting field, but they also had great experience in the field.”
In addition to taking a full slate of MBA courses, Tamara worked as a graduate assistant in the college’s Office of Campus Communications and Enrollment Marketing, where she assisted with social media and public relations. In turn, Tamara earned tuition remission and a small stipend.
She also holds a full-time job in the accounting department at Prestige Family of Fine Cars in New Jersey.
“I’m actually applying the knowledge I learn every day at STAC in my real life in my real jobs,” Tamara says. “I’m busy, but that’s fine with me. This is the real world!”
