The Advanced Certificate in Autism is ideal for teachers who hold a teaching certificate in Special Education or Students with Disabilities and would like to further develop their classroom skills to meet the needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is also suitable for professionals who would like to expand their knowledge in Autism Spectrum Disorder. The on-line program is 12 credits. On completion of the program candidates who hold a NYS certificate for teaching Students with Disabilities will be eligible for an annotation in Severe and Multiple Disabilities.
All courses are taught by college faculty who are specially trained in the education of students with Autism. Coursework covers a range of issues related to working with children with Autism, including fundamentals of ABA, curriculum development, social communication skills, collaboration with parents and transition into adulthood.
The program can be completed in one academic year but candidates may take longer if they wish.
