The Post Masters in Special Education is ideal for teachers who would like to develop expertise in working with students with disabilities and/or earn additional graduate credits. The program is a total of 18 credits. The program can be completed in one academic year but candidates may take longer if they wish. There are two-certificate options for candidates in this program:
Post Masters Certificate in Special Education, Grades 1-6
Post Masters Certificate in Special Education, Grades 7-12
Upon completion of the program, candidates will be recommended for NYS teaching certification in Students with Disabilities at the appropriate grade level. Teachers who complete this program will be able to work as a special educator in either a self-contained classroom, a resource room setting or work as a co-teacher in an inclusive classroom. Candidates admitted into the program will be assigned an advisor who will ensure that they meet the requirements for the grade level they teach.

Admission Requirements Master's Degree in Education: Early Childhood, Elementary, Literacy, Valid Teaching Certificate Three graduate credits may be transferred in if they are equivalent to required course work in the program. Grade must be B or higher. Course work must have been completed within the last five years. Candidates requesting courses to be transferred in must submit an official transcript and a course outline. Decisions regarding acceptance of transfer credits will be made by the Director of Graduate Education. |

Candidates pursuing the Post Masters Certificate in Special Education Grades 1-6: To qualify for certification in New York State candidates must pass the Content Specialty Test (CST) - Students with Disabilities.
