2021 Summer STEAM Camps ARE BACK!

We are pleased to announce that St. Thomas Aquinas College will hold in-person Summer STEAM Camps for middle and elementary school students entering grades 5-9 from Monday, July 19 through Friday, August 13, 2021. Our STEAM camps offer something for everyone in Science, Technology, Arts, and Mathematics.

The series of STEAM Camps are made possible by the generous support of Orange & Rockland Utilities.

Safety is our top priority, we will follow all appropriate COVID-19 guidelines in accordance with the CDC and Rockland County Department of Health. All camps are planned to be in-person but will pivot to online if necessary. Protocols, such as wearing masks, will be updated before the camps begin..


Computational Sound 

There are sounds all around us. In this camp, you will explore how sound is produced, its physical properties, and its relationship to music. You will also learn the basics of the Python programming language and how to use several of Python's audio libraries. For your final project, you will work in a small team to create an electronic "symphony".

The Science of Superheroes 

Have you ever wondered if invisibility cloaks are real? Or why Superman is so strong? Or how Storm can control the weather? Come explore the science behind many of your favorite superheroes and wizards! We will learn about the science related to their powers, and how close we might be to being able to mimic them in real life. Exploration will be done with hands-on demonstrations and experiments.

EXPLORING THE FIBONACCI NUMBERS

Come and explore the fascination of Fibonacci Numbers! Students will explore how mathematics connects with science, art, architecture, and design. The camp will include hands-on activities to allow students to investigate some of the key ideas of mathematics such as number patterns, ratio, and proportion. Open to students at all learning levels.
