2022 Summer STEAM Camps ARE BACK!
We are pleased to announce that St. Thomas Aquinas College will hold in-person Summer STEAM Camps for middle and elementary school students entering grades 5-9 from Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, July 29, 2022. Our STEAM camps offer something for everyone in Science, Technology, Arts, and Mathematics.
Questions? Email [email protected] or call 845-398-4150.
The series of STEAM Camps are made possible by the generous support of Orange & Rockland Utilities.
Safety is our top priority, we will follow all appropriate COVID-19 guidelines in accordance with the CDC and Rockland County Department of Health.
The Mathematics of Art
July 5 - 8, 9AM - 3:00 PM (Tuesday - Friday)
Cost: $250
Join us as we explore the fascinating relationship between Mathematics and Art. At this camp, we will explore mathematics through the lens of several different art forms, including sculpture, tessellations/mosaics, street art and drawing. We will investigate ratio and proportion, the scaling up of images, the use of angles to create perspective, and the creation of tessellations and mosaics. This camp will allow your child to be creative while deepening and expanding their mathematical thinking! Camp is led by Dr. Suzanne Reynolds, STAC faculty professor, and Ms. Samantha Cordone, Nanuet teacher.
The Physics of Flight
July 11-15, 9AM - 3:00 PM (Monday - Friday)
Cost: $350
This camp serves as an introduction to aerospace physics. Campers will examine the theory of basic aerodynamics, physics of flight, and spacecraft operations. The camp will include a combination of classroom discussion, multimedia presentations, and “hands-on” exercises flying various drones. This camp is aimed to inspire students in various aerospace career fields such as professional pilot, aeronautical engineer, or even an astronaut. Camp is led by Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Fred Bivetto, educator, engineer, and pilot.
Emerging Technologies - Registration is now closed for this camp.
Please contact Paula Hughes at [email protected] / 845-398-4150 to be added to the waiting list. Thank you!
July 18-22, 9 AM - 3:00 PM (Monday - Friday)
Cost: $425
Explore robotics and virtual reality (VR) while having fun and experiencing the world of science and engineering. By applying computer science, engineering, and creative skills to innovative projects, campers will gain insight into all three of these areas through hands-on experiences. Campers will build and program their own robots, which they will take home. Campers will create a 3D virtual world that can be experienced with state-of-the-art 3D headsets. Through these activities, campers will have a meaningful introduction to some of the fundamental principles of science and engineering, improve their critical and computational thinking abilities and advance their teamwork skills by collaborating with their fellow campers to create solutions. Camp is led by Dr. Robert Vermilyer, STAC faculty professor.
Thrills and Chills: The Physics of Roller Coasters (Monday - Friday)
July 25 - 29, 9AM - 3:00 PM (Monday - Friday)
Cost: $450
Campers will explore the physics of roller coasters through a combination of hands-on exploration and computer simulations. Topics of inquiry will include velocity, acceleration, centripetal force, potential and kinetic energy. Campers will design their own roller coaster incorporating the concepts learned. This camp will include a field trip to nearby LegoLand in Goshen, NY. Camp is led by Ms. Judy Collins, a former engineer in mobile telecommunications and physics teacher at Warwick Valley High School.
