Spartans in Service: Student-Led Donation Effort for Children’s Home in El Salvador

STAC Spartans have done it again! For the second time this academic year, the STAC community has donated clothing, toys, puzzles, and books to Remar La Libertad, a children’s home in El Salvador. Remar La Libertad serves children and young adults who need support in reclaiming their lives.

Working tirelessly together, STAC student Karla Zamora Guzman and STAC's Criminal Justice Department developed and led this effort. Together they gathered and sorted through donations for hours, ensuring the careful delivery of these important items for those in need.

"Dr. Martin Luther King said, ‘Somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater than to do something for others.’ Karla embodies this quote and lives it each day,” explained STAC Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Dr. Tracy Tully. “Almost one year ago, Karla approached me with the wonderful idea of holding a clothing drive for children in Remar La Libertad. She worked tirelessly to make sure the drive was a complete success and she never wavered in her desire to bring joy to these children. I am so proud of her and all the hard work she put forward to make this happen.”

The effort has already made a big impact on the lives of over 81 children who call Remar La Libertad home. Upon receiving the items, the children expressed their profound gratitude to all who took the time to donate.

STAC is grateful to all who donated, with special gratitude to Karla and the Criminal Justice Department. Together, as Spartans in Service, we can do so much.
