Quarantine and Isolation Policy

In an effort to provide a safe learning and working environment for students and employees, St. Thomas Aquinas College has created the STAC COVID-19 Quarantine/Isolation Policy for STAC Students and Employees.

Coordination with the Rockland County Health Department and the New York State Health Department is a critical part of this plan. The coordination will be done by the Director of Health and Wellness Services. All students and employees must be in compliance with applicable NYS and Local Quarantine/Isolation Guidance(s).

  • Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to COVID-19 to see if they become sick.

Where will people be isolated and quarantined?

  • Resident Students: Encouraged to go home if they can do so safely
    • Residence Life Facilities
      • Isolation involves one person
      • Quarantine may be more than one person depending on circumstances
      • In their normal assigned room; or
      • In a specific room on campus designated by The Director Residence Life and/or The Director of Health and Wellness; or
      • In other facility as directed by the Director of Health and Wellness or the student’s medical provider
      • The Director of Residence Life has designated 19 units for isolation and quarantine
  • Commuter Students: At their personal residence or location identified by their medical care provider
  • Employees: At their personal residence or location identified by their medical care provider

What Quarantine/Isolation Looks Like at STAC:

  • Complete Health Checks every morning and log the results: Daily Health Screening Form - Quarantine or Isolation
    • Record your temperature (can use the thermometer provided by STAC)
      • Wait 30 minutes after eating, drinking or exercising
      • Wait at least six hours after taking medicine that can lower your temperature (like Acetaminophen/Tylenol, Ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin, Naproxen/Aleve, or Aspirin)
  • Complete all questions

  • Important Restrictions
    • Do not leave your room for any reason.
    • Do not go to work, school, church/worship, public events, dining halls or group gatherings.
    • Do not go out for walks.
    • No Visitors.
    • You should seek any medical advice by telephone or STAC Telehealth rather than visiting Health and Wellness Services on campus.
    • Do not leave your room/home unless instructed by a health care provider for the purpose of receiving medical care. Please follow their instructions exactly. Prior to departing, (again only for the purpose of receiving medical care,) wash your hands, and wear a face mask.
  • What If I Start to Feel Worse/Develop Symptoms?
    • Do not go out in public.
    • Do not go to Health and Wellness Services, a doctor’s office or the hospital without calling ahead to receive specific instructions.
    • If you are experiencing a medical emergency (severe shortness of breath, severe allergic reaction, or any symptoms that cannot wait for a return phone call,) call Campus Safety at 845-398-4080. Tell them that you are in COVID-19 Quarantine and tell them what the emergency is.
    • Non-emergency during business hours contact the office of Health and Wellness Services at 845-398-4242
      • Mention that you are in Quarantine
      • Describe your symptoms and concerns
      • Anticipate that you may need to wait for a nurse or provider to call you back
      • If you cannot reach the Student Health Center: Log in to STAC Telehealth for a Medical visit and/or contact Campus Safety 845-398-4080
  • If you are instructed to go to the Student Health Center or hospital: Wash your hands prior to leaving your housing. Wear a mask when leaving your housing. Campus Safety has the ability to call 911 if that is felt to be a safer mode of transport.

Services During Quarantine or Isolation:

  • Will be assigned a case manager who will check in daily with students, address concerns, connect with support services and activities.
  • If a resident student, meals will be delivered directly to the student’s room.
  • Access to Student Engagement via virtual student engagement activities; unique events for those in quarantine/isolation.
  • Access to courses and academic resources via Zoom or other virtual platforms. Students must communicate with their professors to make sure they stay on top of their work in the course. If too ill for class, arrangements will be coordinated with the student’s professors, the appropriate Dean, and the Registrar.
  • Students will also have 24/7/365 access to emotional wellness resources via STAC Telehealth. Visit our STAC Telehealth Services page for further information on how to sign up or log in.
  • Access to spiritual services/support via Campus Ministry.
  • Employees: All services will be coordinated by the employee and their appropriate medical provider and support team. If a quarantined/isolated employee has any questions or concerns, they should reach out to the Director of Human Resources.
